Self-cleaning, innovative exterior paint with the Lotus-Effect®.
Water is unable to get a grip on the surface, and dirt simply washes off in the rain, keeping the façade clean and dry for longer.
To ensure that the Lotus-Effect® works it is essential to prepare the surface with Sto-Hydrogrund first.

Practical consumption rate:
Consumption rates are dependent on substrate:
- 6.0-10.0 m² per litre (non-porous substrate)
- 4.0-6.0 m² per litre (porous/textured substrate)
Application: Roller, brush or airless spray device

Please Note
- StoLotusan Color is purely a masonry paint and is therefore not suitable for timber or metal substrates
- The Lotus-Effect® requires rain water to work as intended
- An anti-algicidal ingredient has been added to StoLotusan Color to protect it during the curing process.
- Rain water will naturally remove this ingredient after the paint has dried.
- This curing process can take between 2-6 weeks (the amount of time taken is dependant upon the levels of rainfall).
- The curing process can be shortened by artificially hosing the painted surface once completely dry
- Until the curing process has completed, the Lotus-Effect® will not function as expected.

How does it work?
The Lotus-Effect® is a technology pioneered by Sto and is incorporated within StoLotusan Color.
Due to the combined micro structure of the paint and hydrophobic ingredients, water cannot maintain surface contact and literally rolls off the surface. As this happens, loose dirt particles are gathered leaving your exterior walls clean. To see this in action, please watch our videos on this page.
Please note
- Rain is required for the Lotus-Effect® to work.
- StoLotusan Color will only remove loose dirt.
- Oil, tar and similar materials which attach themselves to a surface cannot be washed away passively.
