The Sto company name derives from Stotmeister, the family name of the company founders way back in 1835!

A brief history of Sto in the UK
1981 – In their capacity as consultants in a previous business, Andrew Swan and Iain MacDonald were introduced to the external wall insulation systems of Sto AG.
The pair established CCS Scotseal Ltd., an application company, importing Sto products into the UK.
1982 – The first test installation was carried out for Glasgow District Council, followed by a number of projects for private, commercial and local authority clients.
1987 – CCS Scotseal Ltd. secured a major contract with Glasgow District Council to insulate 728 houses. A formal partnership was agreed between CCS Scotseal and Sto AG.
1997 – Following a push to increase the number of projects in London, the first southern office opened in Basingstoke. The first image-building advertising campaigns began.
By this time, Sto Ltd. had become a sales and distribution company.
1999 – Part of the company was transferred to Sto AG, and CCS Scotseal Ltd.
started trading as Sto Ltd. A program of investment and growth was embarked upon.
The Dublin office was opened following a major project in Ireland.
2004 – Sto AG purchased Sto Ltd. and became a wholly owned subsidiary
